“THE HIDDEN LEFT HAND OF GOD”
HIS LEFT HAND IS UNDER MY HEAD
This past week we were listening to a teaching tape from Mike Bickle on the Song of Songs. He was discussing chapter two, verse six, which states: “His left hand is under my head and his right hand embraces me” (NKJV). In this teaching, “His” is referring to God and “my” refers to the “Bride,” or each one of us. Mike goes on to further explain his understanding of the “left hand” . . .
“This is the invisible activity of God. The left hand of God is away from your view and out of your sight because it is behind your head; therefore, you can’t see it. It speaks of the activity of God in your life that you cannot see. The invisible activity of God in your life is a very important expression of God’s love for you. God is withholding and releasing events that you can’t discern. The Lord is sparing you from troubles and pains that you are not aware of because it is away from your view.” Mike goes on to say, “The left-hand activity of God is something you accept by faith. But it really is an important part of our worship before the Lord.”
A TESTIMONY OF HIS LEFT HAND IN ACTION
The afternoon on the day that we were listening to this teaching, we received an email from a friend of ours, Sheri Morgan, who shared the following story. We immediately saw the connection between the teaching and her story, and with Sheri’s permission, we share it here. Please note that the person referred to in the story is Sheri, and this happened to her that same morning.
“A MORNING WAKE-UP CALL FROM GOD” [BEGINNING OF STORY]
The morning was no different than any other. She awoke at the "usual" time and made her way up the stairs to start the "usual" day. As she made her way to the shower, she was making her mental list of "to do's" and remembering the things she'd missed from the very same list the day before....Promising herself that today would be different.
By 8:00, she was backing down the driveway. Everything at home was in place.....Let the day begin!
Traffic that morning was not terribly bad, but unusually frustrating. There seemed to be a cautious driver on every two lane road or a dump truck just pulling out in front of every main intersection where there was any hope of racing past the cautious driver!! When she finally got to a place where she could pass everyone, she saw that the license plate of the car in front of her read, "GRRRR2U2". She chuckled and said out loud, "How appropriate."
By 8:30 she was at her first stop of the day.....A department store. There was a baby shower scheduled that day at work and she was just going to run in and grab a last minute item. As she made her way into the store, she was pleased to see that it was still pretty empty and most importantly....no waiting. "This will be easy!" she thought...Until she saw that they were out of the one item she went in for. Not to be discouraged, she quickly remembered that another store close by most likely carried the same item. So, she ran back to the car to quickly make her way to the other store.
By 8:45 she was leaving the other store with the last minute item in hand. "Thank goodness!! I will still be on time for work!" she thought. As she turned the corner to go and get back into her car, she saw a rather disturbing sight. A woman and her Dodge Intrepid were parked right behind her car!! She was now officially blocked in by a car with a flat tire. But...The good news was that the tire was in the process of being re-inflated. She put her package in her car and started the engine. Surely it wouldn't be too long....Maybe the Lord was just trying to teach her extra patience? Agreeing with that thought, she turned on her favorite worship CD and proceeded to wait.
At 8:53 she noticed that her foot had begun to tap on the floorboard. She didn't even notice that she'd begun tapping....It was as if her foot had a mind of its own! She stopped tapping her foot and then thought, "Well...Maybe I should see if I can help this lady.....Or maybe she didn't see me and doesn't even know I am here… Should I put the car in reverse so she'll see the lights? Goodness...Stop it! Just be patient!!" About that time she looked up in her rearview mirror and saw that the woman was done inflating her tire. "Thank Goodness....Now maybe if I hurry, I can make it to work and not be too late."
By 9:02 she was on the interstate. She turned up her worship CD and proceeded to blend into the crowd of other cars. The interstate wasn't that crowded and so she was making good time....She'd be to her exit in no time.
As she signaled to move over to make her exit, she saw the blue lights in front of her....Her foot instinctively hit the brake and it was at that moment she realized why she'd had so many "inconveniences" on the way to work that day......On the right side of the exit were two huge tires still assembled to their original axle. But, the axle was no longer on the bus that it belonged to.
As she turned onto the road that led to her office, her spirit became overwhelmed because she knew that her delays were not an accident. The delays were there to avoid her from being in the accident. Had she not had to wait those extra few minutes, it was very likely she would have been there. [END OF STORY]
THANKFULNESS FOR THE LEFT AND THE RIGHT HAND OF GOD
In Song of Songs 2:6, it not only refers to God’s “left hand,” but also speaks of the “embrace of His right hand.” The “right hand” is the manifest presence of God—that which you can feel, sense, and discern. Though we desperately need and hunger for this embrace, we believe that the Lord wants us to know—especially when in seasons of not sensing His overt presence—that HE IS WITH US! He will never leave us or forsake us (Dt. 31:8).
SHERI’S PRAYER
This is the prayer that Sheri wrote and prayed after her experience that morning. Let’s join with her in this, as it’s a prayer for all of us . . .
“Thank You Lord for Your presence in my life and for the ministering angels that surround me 24/7. Your grace is perfect....Your knowledge and wisdom infinite! My mind is in awe of You and of Your mercy! Forgive me Lord for working "my agenda" and for negotiating and manipulating my day.....For it's then that I miss You in the small and big things in life. You said Lord that if I will just ask that You will answer....Thank You Lord for answering even when I forget to ask.”
